SIR - I write to you regarding the article by Saima Mir on anti-social behaviour (T&A, October 14).
I note the fact that the police and trading standards officers are working together to enforce the firework laws.
I note that fireworks went on legal sale on October 15 this year.
I have written to Marsha Singh, above, several times during the past two years and in a reply dated September 11, 2004, he stated that a Private Members' Bill had been passed on the noise question and new regulations would come into force.
During the past few months things have been relatively quiet due, I believe, to the efforts of Mr Singh for which I and my neighbours thank him, but on Saturday, October 21, and the following days we have had loud explosions and mini-rockets in the afternoons and evenings culminating on the following Tuesday with extended noise until late evening with air-bombs.
The people who are exploding these bombs can have no concern for the distress caused by this. Why should these loud fireworks be allowed for sale to the public?
I look forward with trepidation to the days leading up to November 5 and afterwards, fearing a repeat of the past few days.
Mrs R Robb, Lily Croft, Manningham
