SIR – On holiday in Yorkshire, of course I didn’t want to miss mythic Haworth .
I parked at the top of the village and spent time on the moors in glorious sunshine.
At the end of a wonderful walk, I was brought back to reality in the most disagreeable manner. Being five minutes late returning and fiddling with the sat-nav to figure out how to find my accommodation, the employee clamped my car while I was in it, obviously about to leave, and demanded £90 in cash, only Heathcliff-like too! So much for romanticism!
I was told there’s nothing to be done since it’s a private lot, still I just wanted to let you know how my reverie had been spoiled by this modern-times highway robbery, and how detrimental it can be to the image of the most amazingly beautiful landscapes in England.
