SIR – I used to think your correspondent T Tordoff spoke a lot of sense but, of late and with his letter (T&A, August 30), I now have reservations.

I am one of the clots to whom he refers and one who has read an eminent professor of economics’ observations giving compelling evidence that wind turbines are one of the least economical ways of providing the energy we need.

His references to Drake are infantile; he would have made shorter shrift of the Spaniards if he had not had to rely on wind power.
