News that Omar Khan and Gerry Sutcliffe have finally been able to complete the deal that secures the future of the Bradford Bulls comes as a welcome relief after months of wrangling and uncertainty.

Fans, players and staff will all be pleased that the club has new owners at last after the long spell of uncertainty.

In many ways, the really hard work starts now, and after a process he has described as ‘exciting and exhausting’ Mr Khan has revealed to the T&A some of his dramatic plans to take the Bulls forward.

And while his dream of creating a Wembley of the North is a very ambitious one, if he can back up the passion and commitment of his words with deeds, who is to say what can be achieved?

It is certainly the case that Mr Khan cares deeply about heritage and history of the Bulls, and his partnership with former sports minister and current Bradford South MP Mr Sutcliffe clearly represented the best deal to take the troubled club forward.

The case must now be made for the club to retain Super League status, and that will ultimately be decided by the RFL based on the plans and commitments that are put forward by Mr Khan.

In the meantime, the new owner will be unveiled to fans at the crunch game with Hull FC tonight. It would be fitting if his arrival was sealed by a victory for the Bulls – particularly if it is a victory that wins them a play-off place. That would mark a truly incredible turnaround of fortunes for a club that seemed to be on the brink of extinction just a few weeks ago.
