SIR – Re Nothing gained, (Letters, August 31 – Ian Parsons clutching at “facts”, as he sees them.

Mr Parsons says Lib Dems “have gained nothing” from coalition. The fact is, Ian, you are wrong. A number of Lib Dem proposals, incorporated into the coalition agreement are being/have been implemented – eg higher pensions, the pupil premium and fixed-term parliaments.

I’m sorry that you and your Labour and Tory colleagues don’t ever want to see Lords reform.

Lib Dems will continue to fight for democracy and the rule of the majority, (not just the largest minority). I am, however, pleased that you recognise that the money markets were under-regulated under Labour, significantly contributing to the financial mess.

You must be younger that I imagined, Ian, to think that Tories in Government are the most right-wing and ideologically-driven than even Mrs Thatcher. You can’t have been around when Thatcher ruled (on a minority of the vote, of course).

I was around, and although the biggest minority of the vote embraced New Labour for relief, the song remained much the same. People need to vote Lib-Dem for real change.
