SIR – Correspondent D Bull (T&A, August 30) raises concerns about the proposed waste incinerator in Bowling Back Lane.
I have been greatly impressed by similar projects visited across the country. The plants are clean, efficient and without doubt the future – be assured they are not dirty factories.
Emissions are cleaned and filtered, have automatic shutdown and comply with air quality directives. Figures for traffic movement show a maximum increase of 25 per cent on current if the plant works to full capacity. Such figures are fully detailed in the planning application before the Council. So, too, are developer contingencies in the event of plant failure.
I am never swift to praise our Council, but in this instance they have got it right. Please do not be concerned – we are leading the way through new technology.
Councillor John Pennington (Con) Bingley Ward, c/o City Hall, Bradford
