SIR – Bradford commuters are indeed car-reliant (T&A, August 28), causing serious congestion. One reason is because politicians are continually talking down our bus services. Bradford has 16 main routes with ten-minute frequency bus services serving most Bradford suburbs as well as Keighley , Leeds and Halifax.
I am surprised that Councillor Shah does not know that fully-integrated annual and monthly Metro bus passes are available, and have been for years. These tickets are only about £2.50 per day – very good value. There are even cheaper single company tickets, which Metro want to phase out!
Any commuter who lives and works on one of the main routes can save money by commuting by bus, on which a paper can be read or a smartphone used in complete safety.
Buses, like all other vehicles, are sometimes held up by congestion and if Councillors Shah and Hussain wanted to help commuters they would introduce more bus priority, which is the key to even better bus services than we already have.
Bingley , Menston and Guiseley are mentioned as having poor bus services, however, they have excellent electric train services to Leeds and Bradford. Bingley has good bus services.
