SIR – In reply to John Hall, Nick Clegg has brought this all down on his own and his Party’s head. Tens of thousands of students took his pledge at face value and voted Liberal Democrat: they are now outraged at the betrayal.
It is true Labour introduced tuition fees, largely because student numbers were such it was unreasonable to expect the taxpayer to fund it. Labour said that the fees would go up ten per cent. Nick Clegg pledged to abolish them: they went up 300 per cent.
It is Labour Party policy to have a fully-elected second chamber. Nick Clegg’s proposals were ill-thought through and doomed to failure. To come up with a single-term of office of 15 years is laughable in terms of democratic accountability.
Be honest, John, Labour didn’t cause the worldwide financial crisis, they were victims of it.
This coalition Government has, seemingly, declared war on the public sector, the old, disabled, unemployed, those on benefits.
Their economic forecasts are a joke; their policies have produced no effect on growth and there is no end in sight to the pain.
The Liberal Democrats could have let the Conservatives form a minority government. I have lost count of the number of people who voted Liberal Democrat and have told me that they will never be fooled again. They didn’t vote to get a Conservative government, but that was what they ended up with.
