SIR – Well played Andy Hodge on achieving another Olympics gold medal, but I also feel it to be appropriate to accord a line of congratulations in your columns to the Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonny, who won gold and bronze respectively in the triathlon.
Indeed, through their frequent training exercises around the Dales, the Brownlee brothers have probably been more familiar figures within Craven this past few years than Andy who understandably has had to be predominantly based elsewhere.
And, while many Craven folk went to the triathlon event in Hyde Park purely due to it being a “free view” part of the Olympics, I am also coming across more and more people from Craven who went to support the Brownlee lads through them having built up a direct friendship.
A champion family in more ways than one, Alistair has even been along and helped on a voluntary role to hump in a load of bags and boxes for a Skipton charity shop.
Now that is what I call a star!
