SIR – Re rail fare increases. They are going to kill off rail travel in this country. No-one will be able to afford to use the trains any more and will turn to their cars and congest our already over-crowded roads even more.

I just cannot understand what goes on in the minds of MPs who sit in Parliament and just argue with each other across the table.

We already have a nightmare road –M62 – in our region which is being made into a four-lane carriageway without a hard shoulder. Lay-bys are being installed but what happens when one breaks down between laybys? The inside lane becomes congested.

I’ve always been a supporter of the cross-rail link, but after reading about fare increases I have now lost interest in the idea as I won’t be able to afford a ride on a service train.

The last time I rode on a train it had a steam engine at the front at Haworth and it was cheap, a pleasure.

As for building stations at Low Moor and Apperley Bridge , there’s no point any more as no-one will use them.

I’ll not write any more letters demanding stations at Bowling, Low Moor, Wyke and Hipperholme as it is a lost cause.

I will, however, tell everyone to use their cars – it’s cheaper.
