SIR – Not content to openly incite civil wars in Libya and Syria, (and the unspeakable human misery that goes with it) William Hague is once again giving democracy a bad name by threatening to invade the sovereignty of the Embassy of Ecuador.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is currently inside the Embassy in London having been granted political asylum by Ecuador.
This is a clear-cut case of Hague desperately trying to look tough and supportive to the US objective of having Assange dragged off to America and tried for treason. Whereupon, nobody would be at all surprised if Assange was sentenced to death in the land of the free, home of the brave.
It seems clear that Hague does not know the first thing about diplomacy or the rules governing political asylum. Neither, it seems, has he read what our ‘Special Friends’ had to say about this country in the leaked documents.
Only one week on from the Olympics and I’m embarrassed to be British again.
