SIR – Mr Wilson (Letters, August 13), would change his mind on wanting a new National Anthem if he heard our current anthem belted out with pride and joy by the audience, including people from foreign parts, at the Last Night Of The Proms.
I don’t think we should worry to much about the Scots – they appear to be heading towards independence, they can choose their own anthem, although Mr Salmond Scottish First Minister, intends to retain the monarchy. I wonder what Billy Connolly will make of that?
Ultimately it may solely be an English decision. Given the Englishman’s bloody-mindedness, we will stick with the anthem and the monarch and in the process soundly reject the republican privileged elite.
Some how I can’t see Englishmen serving a pin-stripe suited president.
