SIR – I enjoy engaging with fellow socialist and Tory correspondents, many of whom won’t let the truth get in the way of their prejudices.

For example, Christopher Hindle (Letters, August 3) accuses Nick Clegg (pictured) of reneging on manifesto commitments. In fact, many are and have been implemented. At the same time, brakes have been applied to more extreme Tory plans or they have been excluded from the coalition agreement.

While it is true that Lib-Dems in parliament agreed to Tory plans to raise Labour’s tuition fees, I know senior Lib-Dems still want to scrap them altogether.

Mr Hindle, apparently, has decided what Parliament is to do on Lords reform and gay marriages and mentions the Alternate vote.

Excuse me! I don’t see how opposition from some (Tory and Labour) politicians to sensible reforms can be termed “reneging”. Parliament has to agree to reforms which Lib-Dems can only introduce for consideration.

When Nick Clegg’s Sheffield constituents make their judgements, I’m sure some will be as ill-informed and ignorant of the facts as Mr Hindle (not to mention politically-biased), but don’t tar all with the same brush.
