SIR – What proud moments for Yorkshire we have been witnessing in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The London Games are the perfect podium to show the world what Yorkshire folk are made of. The other week, we witnessed Otley ’s own Lizzie Armitstead win the first medal of the Games with a silver in the cycling event.
The crowning glory of the entire games must surely be the magnificent win of gold in the heptathlon by Sheffield’s very own athletics queen Jessica Ennis.
More than 2,000 years ago, after a victory at Zela, Julius Caesar proclaimed: “Veni, Vidi, Vici”. This brilliant young lady should be shouting from the roof of St Paul’s: “Veni, Vidi, Vici” – I came, I saw, I conquered.
