SIR – Following the arrest of eight people in police raids during a clampdown on brothels (T&A, June 2), Inspector Vicky Lawrance said that it was important that they disrupt those involved and prevent their activities from continuing.

In the same article it was reported that earlier in the week two women were arrested at an address in Fagley Place, and they had admitted managing and keeping a brothel used for prostitution. However, for doing so they were both given an adult caution.

If the police consider that such cautions are a suitable penalty and/or deterrent, then no wonder there is so much reoffending.

It really is time that adult cautions were very substantially reduced, and proper prosecutions, and penalties, instituted. They are an utter joke on far too many occasions, and an easy opt-out of responsibility.
