SIR – Why is Clayton village so special? Could it be that we have, among other things, an excellent park soon to be improved? We have three very good primary schools and four active churches together with an excellent, welcoming library, and an ever-improving village hall serving the community and a forward-outlooking parish council.

Clayton has three relatively young district councillors to look after our interests in City Hall. The Clayton C of E Primary School choir helped put Clayton on the map when they were finalists in a BBC Junior Choir of the Year competition. In Cowgill Surgery we have an excellent medical practice which operates a “no appointments system” much loved by the patients.

Clayton are now proud to have, against very stiff opposition, John and Karen Summers, butchers, winners of the prestigious Retail Hospitality Business of the Year in the T&A Bradford Means Business Awards.

John summed it up when he said: “We are not just a business we support the local community”. This is true and they are a credit to the village and undoubtedly contribute towards making Clayton what it is today.
