SIR - It is with genuine concern that I respond to the possibility of the First Bus Company scrapping the 846 bus route from Shipley to Buttershaw because it is not making enough money.
How sad that once again money, funding and feasibility rears its ugly head against the help and convenience that this valuable service has, not just for our pensioners and senior citizens but for all passengers who rely heavily on the 846 route for convenience and location.
In particular, for the convenience of bus stops like John Street in the city centre which are invaluable for our senior citizens and less mobile passengers for their shopping trips.
While appreciating First Bus Company is a commercial venture and services need to pay for themselves, why does the advent of free rides for pensioners' mean the valuable service of route 846 is put in jeopardy?
When the West Yorkshire Transport Authority (Metro) re-examines the effects of the scheme, will they re-introduce new tariffs and scrap the free rides?
Which is more important, the profitability of First Bus or the provision of a fully integrated public transport system for the benefit of all the citizens of Bradford Metro?
