SIR - Your editorial Rail plan is on right lines' (T&A, September 21) suggested that Grand Central's proposed four through trains per day between Bradford and King's Cross would be a "big improvement on the current token direct links provided by GNER".
Your readers should be aware that GNER, as required by our franchise contract with the Department for Transport, has six trains per weekday from Bradford district - two return services from Forster Square to London King's Cross and one Skipton-Keighley-London return service, providing more than 3,100 seats in total each weekday.
Grand Central has proposed to use trains with approximately 240 seats, meaning that four return trains per day would provide 1,900 seats in total each weekday.
When GNER started in 1996 we increased our Bradford-London services but the market did not respond and one of those train sets was switched to begin the Skipton-London service.
Passengers from across the Bradford district also have the choice of 180 trains to and from Leeds per weekday, providing access to more GNER services between Leeds and London.
