It is sometimes taken for granted that right in the heart of Bradford we have one of the biggest free family attractions in the country.

The National Media Museum is a massive draw for the young and old, as was seen again recently when its half term events saw its visitor footfall increase by 73.4 per cent on the previous year.

That was obviously helped by the presence of the Moshi Monsters – not an attraction for everyone, admittedly, but considered to be one of the fastest-growing online children’s brands.

Too many people are willing to focus on the negative aspects of the city and it is easy to forget that there are attractions that can draw people into the district and into the city itself.

As well as the Alhambra and St George’s theatres, the city has a number of galleries, the industrial museum, and, within a few miles, Bronte country and the Dales.

And whatever the criticism of the cash spent on it, there can be no doubting that the resplendent City Park is in itself already proving to be a unique and significant attraction. It has already helped expose Bradford nationally in a very positive way on BBC 1’s The One Show and in the Guardian.

With the imminent arrival of the Life Online Gallery at the Media Museum, a pioneering new gallery space that will be one of the first of its kind, the city will continue to have a major attraction that is a destination in itself.

We must continue to cherish it and ideally encourage more attractions for the city to capture the ever-expanding market for both domestic and international tourists.

Those who come to the Media Museum are all potential shoppers, diners and drinkers in Bradford. Everything possible must be done to ensure the City fully exploits this potential gold mine.
