SIR - An editorial (T&A, September 7) suggested that "few thinking people" seriously expected to see wetlands along Thornton Road and giant glass mushrooms scattered across the city centre. I would add: Princes Way and six-lane Hall Ings closed to traffic.

But these were exactly the proposals put enthusiastically before the public by Bradford Cenre Regeneration and by Margaret Eaton.

If these ideas, together with the Bridge of Learning, were, according to David Preece, of Bradford Planning Department, "wacky", why were they entertained?

Why, indeed, was tax-payers' money spent on engaging consultant Will Alsop, whose visions now require "interpreting" (Councillor Mallinson's words). "Replacing with common sense," I should say.

Let us hope the "Rebirth of the Valley" will be realised. Readers will remember the once-placarded development of Sunwin House car park.

The proposed Paradise Street will not complete Bradford's fractured inner ring road. The Listergate residential scheme will block it for years to come and additional traffic will crowd into The Boulevard (Thornton Road).
