SIR – The concreting-over of Holme and Tong is far too important to leave to councillors. It should at least go to a committee for a full and frank discussion from both sides.
Not only is Holme and Tong greenbelt land, it is agricultural land once used by a thriving farming community for dairy farming, ploughing and plant production.
There must be 30 square miles of arable land and their only claim to fame is to flatten it and smother it in concrete.
Our councillors – nationwide – know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. For example, I’ve been chasing councillors Ian Greenwood and John Ruding for a single bus stop to the top end (south) of Holme Wood for us wrinklies for seven years. For seven years they’ve been giving me the elbow.
This green land has been enjoyed by families for decades and raised thousands of fit, healthy kids.
Two-thousand seven hundred houses equates to 12,000 souls, all to be fed and watered.
It’s our last chance to save our last piece of our greenbelt heritage. Once gone there’ll be no going back.
M Booth, Broadstone Way, Holme Wood
