SIR – Instead of making Bradford’s housing requirement a class issue, Councillor Slater (T&A, January 26) should recognise that it will be predominantly the middle class who will occupy the homes to be built on greenfield land.
It is only they who can afford to contribute to the considerably enhanced profitability resultant from virgin sites.
Perhaps she should investigate how much green land is owned by developers or their nominees and to what extent these companies – who have no allegiance or responsibility to Bradford – will benefit financially from the development of our green heritage.
It is contended that the specified requirement of 45,500 new houses is a false premise and the findings of the Council Planning Dept and should be independently reviewed.
