SIR – I am writing this letter in reply to a letter from D Rhodes (T&A, December 30) criticising my comments about David Cameron going to Brussels and upsetting the bully boys of the EU.
Now, the criticism about my comments I can take, as I have always believed in free speech. However, what I will not take is making me out to act in some peculiar way.
I did not get “elated” or “cock-a-hoop” about this.
I am nearly 87 years old and my generation was brought up a lot different than later ones.
We were more reserved and did not, and do not now, show off like they do today.
So, please, to anyone interested, don’t make your comments or criticism personal, and I promise I won’t.
