SIR – If our soldiers risking their lives in Afghanistan serve a continuous period of six months abroad, they are then classed as a ‘non dom’ and do not have to pay income tax.
But Geoffrey Bloom UKIP MEP claims that they are being brought home for short periods, not for their welfare, but to ensure they are liable to pay income tax (T&A, January 19).
This devious ploy must not be allowed to continue, so I have written to my MP hoping he will raise this matter at PM Questions.
When I see soldiers on TV like Ben Parkinson, who lost both legs and suffered brain damage in Afghanistan, courageously showing strength and determination to regain a semblance of normality, I am both disgusted and angry with the Government. This policy is unscrupulous.
