SIR – Gerry Sutcliffe MP confirmed what most people already knew: the Lib-Lab-Con cabal that controls City Hall doesn’t want anything that might disturb their cosy Tweedledum and Tweedledee charade. They’d rather we didn’t even have a chance to decide whether we want an elected mayor.
Anyone who wants to see change in Bradford, whether securing refurbishment of the Odeon or opening up empty properties to house the homeless, ought to make sure they vote for a mayor on May 3.
And since the actual mayoral election is slated for November, we need to be thinking right now on how we’re going to avoid the same-old-same-old “Buggins’ turn” sliding into another non-accountable seat.
Because they’re all lining up for the job of mayor. If the Left in the city had any guts, they’d jump at the chance to disturb the status quo. But since they are mostly too busy squabbling among themselves to have any significant effect on local politics, it’ll have to be the 99 per cent majority who don't play at politicking who get our act together and make a real difference.
Most people don’t vote in local elections because they know it doesn’t make any difference what colour rosettes are worn by the winners. But this gives them a chance to come out of their shells and make a change.
