SIR – The news that the Poplars Sports Ground in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, may have to close because the parish council will not be able to contribute a reported £25,428 towards the £40,000 annual cost of running the grounds is in sharp contrast to news in the national media that the taxpayer will be contributing £40 million towards the cost of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games.

I don’t know how much of the Olympic legacy will be left over after the games, but it certainly won’t be in Burton Joyce by the sounds of it.
