SIR – Congratulations to the T&A for its articles on the proposed housing developments in the Bradford district.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees it, and many I have spoken to know nothing of these proposals.

To my knowledge there have been no public meetings or consultations in my ward, which is disappointing, considering wherever this massive expansion of housing is to be, the impact on everyone in the Bradford district will be substantial.

Not least of these will be the possible increase of 90,000 cars on our roads (45,000 houses, two cars per household).

Many of the proposed sites for development are in outlying districts, thereby exacerbating congestion on commuter routes.

While most people would prefer to maintain our green spaces (which is what makes Bradford a special place), it would be sensible to build along rail routes.

Ilkley has lines to Bradford and Leeds, and although its residents would no doubt resist further development the moors and riverside would remain unaffected.

It is disturbing to read the proposals for a huge development on green belt beyond Holme Wood. People need green space and Holme Wood is probably the largest estate in the district.

Whatever decisions are made, none should be finalised without the full participation of our citizens. Developers should be carefully managed to ensure that all new housing is carbon-neutral, are of high-quality and that community facilities are included.
