SIR – A sole Bingley pub being adorned with a blue plaque as part of a “fight back in the face of tough competition and difficult trading conditions” will not make a firkin of difference to the doldrums in which the depressed and depressing pub trade now finds itself.
However, should any landlord be able to mount a similar sign boldly declaring “Smokers Welcome Inside”, you'd be amazed how quickly the accelerating five-year trend of pub-closures would be reversed.
So why not campaign for that positive approach and save many precious local businesses ?
