SIR – Christopher Hindle (T&A Letters, January 9) has every right to have his criticiisms of me published, but I wish he would use better arguments than his hard-eyed political appraisal.

I am not entirely sure what, in his parlance, his and my soft-eyed ones are. He seems to forget that even his beloved Blair and Brown cosied up to the capitalists, and everyone bar him believes it is in our country’s interest for the financial services based in London to be protected from the likes of Sarkozy and Merkel.

What is his answer to capitalism? Socialism and liberalism do not work any better, and communism, we all should know, was a disaster.
