SIR - What a load of "Double Dutch" - too many pensioners using the 846 bus for free (T&A, September 22).
The service isn't altogether free for people paying £20-a-week council tax like us. How much of this does First Bus receive? The company says it is not making money on this route but would not pull the plug due to financial reasons. Can you therefore tell us the reason? Why are they considering cutting this service?
The loss of this service would not only affect people like me with walking difficulties who can ride up to John Street Market and work our way down through the shops to City Hall and return home.
The market traders would also suffer because hundreds do exactly the same as I do.
I think I may have to use my car and add to the city's congestion.
A plea to the Council - please don't let First Bus cut the service until the once-promised mini-trams can make it up to John Street Market.
