SIR - Your billboards announced Shock Bradford truancy figures' relating to your story (T&A, September 22) about the city being the third worst in the UK.
Why is it a shock? You run a similar headline every time these figures are published.
The biggest shock is the pathetic attempts by Education Bradford trying to wriggle off the hook.
Employee Barbara Lawrie has the nerve to say: "The high unauthorised absence figures have mainly come about as a result of a success story for Bradford schools." And even better: "these figures do not reflect the good news on attendance."
What good news? We're all dying to know what you consider bad news. This propaganda babble is the equal of British Rail's famous wrong kind of snow' excuse.
No matter how bad the evidence is about their continuing under-performance, Education Bradford will always find a way to turn it around and present it as a triumph.
