SIR - The Council department that uses the most electricity is the transportation and planning department, yet the proposed reductions seem to fall only on the arts, heritage and leisure department.
Here's a suggestion. Essex County Council recently announced their intention to switch off most street lights between the hours of midnight and four in the morning.
That council's spokesman pointed out that not only would this save taxpayers more than £1 million each year, it would allow inveterate stargazers to see the night sky again.
Perhaps we should adopt the same approach here in Bradford (and I might add that turning off traffic lights during the small hours would also save a few pennies) rather than charging the public more to go for a swim or losing the delight of the Alhambra in all its glory.
