SIR - I wish to endorse the views expressed by Mr Malcolm Gray (T&A September 19) regarding the issue of dogs in the Bradford area.

As Mr Gray states, the Dogs Act 1871 is current law with the exception of the requirement to purchase a dogs licence.

The unfortunate incidents reported in your paper that have taken place are not to be condoned.

However, these incidents, one six years ago, one two years ago (T&A, September 19) and the latest this summer must be balanced against the hundreds of dogs being walked daily responsibly by their owners during the same period.

I uphold the view that every dog should have a licence and display ownership identity.

I feel the T&A campaign should be channelled into encouraging enforcement of the current law as previously mentioned rather than attempting to get new legislation created.
