SIR – Re unions fear more jobs to go at the Council, a figure of 500 was mentioned (T&A, November 16).
Invariably, when any redundancies are announced, regardless of company or oganisation, those who lose their jobs are low down the scale. I think this present wave of redundancies should start with the top.
Let’s really see if those at the top of the ladder are really worth their keep. Amalgamate two or three departments, this would save the taxpayer.
We all have to tighten our belts, so let it start from the top for once, and work down the ladder. I would be quite willing to swing the axe where needed, and being retired, I have plenty of time on my hands. I would be willing to do it for nothing.
Now don’t everybody rush with offers!
