SIR – In defending anti-Zionist jazz saxophonist Gilad Atzmon’s right to play at a concert organised by Raise Your Banners in Bradford (T&A, November 24), Karl Dallas argues that Atzmon’s opponents are supporters of the “Zionist establishment”.

Thankfully, Bradford Trades Union Council, the Jewish Board of Deputies and the Community Security Trust have spoken out against Mr Gilad’s planned performance.

Mr Dallas has argued in the past that Israel is a fascist state and, therefore, the logic follows, any criticisms or protests against Israel are legitimate. It is on this basis that Mr Dallas defends Mr Gilad.

There are almost no limits to how low the Far Left will stoop to demonise Israel – the only real democracy in the entire Middle East – evidence by the disruption by members of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign when they heckled during a recent performance by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, forcing BBC radio to take the concert off air.

And yet when people take a stand against the demonisers and speak up for Israel’s right to defend itself against Islamist terrorists, suddenly it isn’t fair.
