SIR – The draft local development framework (LDF), currently out for public consultation, has the potential to plunge the district into traffic chaos for decades to come.
The relationship between the allocation of areas for housing, industrial, and commercial development appears to have put demand first and current and likely future transport infrastructure last.
An example of this is the proposal to build 550 houses in Baildon, even though the village’s road system cannot even cope with present demand.
It is not rocket science to realise that transport infrastructure has to precede development not the other way. Another example is the proposed development of the Canal Road corridor without substantial improvements to Canal Road.
In theory, greater use of public transport might alleviate the problem, except that there would have to be a step change in both the frequency and quality of service before realistically more people would use it.
Given the importance of this document, it must also be a cause for concern that public consultation has been launched in the run up to Christmas with limited publicity.
