SIR – At last after decades of denial the disgraceful truth that has at last been publicly acknowledged, following a statement by the Ramadan Foundation from outside Bradford, that Pakistani men have for decades been openly and systematically sexually abusing young vulnerable girls in Bradford and Keighley, should come as no surprise to those in authority.
Those who should have intervened and didn’t should hang their heads in shame.
Due to a lack of leadership and moral courage from the responsible authorities, many children have been, and continue to be, violated and their lives destroyed while those in authority have looked the other way for political reasons.
As long ago as 2004, Channel 4 exposed the plight of these children in the programme The Edge Of The City when the reporter and the programme were vilified.
I wrote to this paper expressing concern that authorities were still in denial seven years ago.
I am now calling for a public inquiry as to why the rights of vulnerable children in Bradford and Keighley have not been protected, and why those in authority failed to act.
