SIR – Bradford Council’s Labour leader Ian Greenwood considers that an elected mayor is not appropriate for our city (T&A, November 18), and is supported in this by the other party leaders.
While I have my doubts, depending on the powers that are given to the mayor, it has to be said that having a Council Executive does not appear to have served Bradford at all well in recent times.
Various Executives over the years seem to have taken little or no account of the views of residents, nor does it appear that individual councillors have had much say at all in what goes on.
Perhaps an elected mayor would be closer to the views of the people of Bradford than seems to have been the case with the Executive?
