SIR – Does the Post Office ever listen to or answer the messages on its answerphone?

On November 2, I had a card left by the postman saying he had attempted to deliver a ‘large brown packet’ which was too big. I could e-mail (no computer), collect (no car) or phone to arrange a delivery. I rang and left a message on the answerphone asking for it to be delivered to my local post office. I called in for three successive days and the staff suggested that I ring again so a suitable delivery time could be arranged.

The procedure was repeated.

As I have been retired several years and Inkersley Road is not the easiest place to reach, I eventually went down to collect my package with a friend.

I asked why my calls had not been answered, and was told the desk staff do not answer their calls. They suggested I ring customer services.

A lady there tried to help but couldn’t get through to whoever my previous calls had gone to, gave me a complaints number and suggested I ring again.

I rang, quoted the number and was told “someone is going to ring you – the case is still open”. After four days I am still waiting.

Should we not expect better from our Post Office?
