SIR – It appears that J Lewis Nicholl (Letters, November 12) has a lot to learn about politics. He/she criticises people like myself for slating our incompetent councillors. We do not elect incompetents into office.

Seventy-five per cent of the electorate didn’t vote because they know what the candidates are like. Most vote for a political party, not the person, and others just believe what the candidates tell them.

No prospective councillor will say they have no vote on major issues, as these are taken by a select minority.

He/she states that we can have another go at the next election at electing an impeccable and immaculate herd of councillors.

Sorry to disappoint, but that breed of politician is now extinct.
