SIR - Brilliant, superb, once again the Men from the Ministry and Bradford Council are about to bury their heads in the sand to make it easier for the public to apply the boot.
The proposals to solve the traffic congestion at Saltaire's infamous roundabout seem to be the most ludicrous to date. All are short-term measures designed to fail and if implemented will quickly become a further waste of public money.
Closing three entrances and exits to local traffic will not change the increased volume of through traffic caused by the Bingley Relief road and no amount of studies will change that.
Closing Moorhead Lane to all traffic is going to move the problem to the junction of Bradford Road and Nab Lane, consequently increasing the flow of rat-run traffic to Nabwood Drive.
I have travelled the same route to work for 16 years and use Saltaire roundabout to access Saltaire Road to Shipley twice a day on average. Before 2003, the journey used to take ten minutes, post relief road it takes between 25 and 30 minutes.
Why? It does not take a great deal of intelligence to answer that but apparently the Men from the Ministry are exempt from that quality. It will take more that £800k to solve this ongoing problem. If millions can be found for new canals that go nowhere and city centre lakes then surely there is sufficient money for a tunnel and bypass without affecting the quality of life of the taxpayers and voters to the south of Saltaire.
Mr P I Wossick, Nabwood Drive, Shipley
