SIR – So, Emmerson Walgrove (Letters, November 16) thinks that the Odeon should be demolished as it’s an eyesore and in disrepair.

He also states that Bradford cannot move forward in this regard because of a “small minority” who wish the building to be retained.

It seems to me that Mr Walgrove is conveniently ignoring a number of rather important points here.

There were a large number of objections to the demolition proposal, either by letter or petitions, and there seems to be no doubt that this support is still there.

It is all very well pointing out the shabby state of the building, but this is solely because its stewardship by Yorkshire Forward has been so disgracefully lacking. One has to suspect that this was simply to further their demolition agenda.

There is still no reason why the Odeon cannot be properly refurbished to act as a wonderful backdrop to the new City Park, and to superbly complement the adjacent Alhambra Theatre, in a way that New Victoria Place never could.

This is the sort of vision that has been so sadly lacking by our city leaders for far too long.
