SIR – What a peculiar organisation English Heritage is, being critical as well as offering no support for the preservation of the Odeon, while at the same time waxing lyrical and wanting to preserve what can only be described as tatty, decrepit old buildings that, in the main, have no architectural merit whatsoever.
It appears, on the face of it, that the only consideration this body gives is the age of whatever building they wish to preserve, regardless of the cost to whoever is willing to pay the bill!
Whether or not English Heritage is another unelected quango like Yorkshire Forward was, I have no idea. But like the aforementioned group, it is quite apparent that the views of the general public never come into the equation when making decisions on the preservation, or otherwise, of buildings such as the Odeon.
So much for democracy.
