SIR – I understand that David Cameron is keen to cut the benefits of people who have been found guilty of criminal offences, but won’t that make them more likely to re-offend?
It is arguable that an individual’s poor living standard has a contributing factor in them breaking the law in the first place, and if someone is sentenced in the course, surely they shouldn’t be punished twice?
