SIR – Jim Greenhalf's article (T&A, November 4) highlighted just how poor the transport system in the Bradford area is, with rail facilities continuing to lag well behind other cities.
Bradford Council leader Ian Greenwood was quoted as saying that the whole transport infrastructure of Bradford had not been well-served by previous City Hall administrations. Well, didn’t Councillor Greenwood run one of these in the past?
He went on to say that he had asked officers to look at a plan to have a fit-for-purpose transport infrastructure.
This from a man whose administration has just agreed to the Westfield development without taking any account of a possible future cross-city rail link.
Rail travel is booming, and will surely continue to expand in the years ahead. A cross-rail link, while not currently affordable, may very well be justified in a few years time, but will now be blocked for generations.
That he leads a Council with so little foresight tells us just why our city is in the appalling state that we see today.
We continue to be beset with leaders who simply do not have the vision that Bradford so desperately needs.
