SIR – I am one of the home library users and I decided to get in touch after reading the article in the T&A on November 1.

I am disabled and cannot get out of the house to get my library books easily. When I discussed this with library staff 18 months ago, they referred me to the home library service. They were fantastic and have brought me talking books and reserved reading books every three weeks ever since. I was saddened to hear the service is being suspended, however short a time it is going to be for, because not only does it provide me with books, but also a friendly contact as I do not get many visitors. I am sure that many others, especially the older users, would say the same thing. The people who bring the books have a smiling face and a cheery word.

It’s sad we had no warning of the suspension. I read about it in the paper before I was contacted. This is in no way a criticism of the service, as they have a lot of members, and they probably had no warning themselves.

I hope the Council resolve the problems quickly so the service can be restored; it is indispensable and I would not be able to access the library any other way.
