SIR – Congratulations to the Bradford business leaders who have persuaded the Government to honour part of their moral responsibility to Bradford and cough up £17 million.
However, who else but Bradford Council would intend to use some of this money to relieve the rates of Westfield’s potential tenants?
Westfield made an immense profit of £1.5 billion last year, and did very well from their new London developments They are not short of money and must be made to honour their repeated claims of commitment to Bradford by charging rents realistic enough to bring in tenants without their needing a subsidy from the public purse.
Instead of the Council being led by the nose, Bradford’s interest would be better served by our successful business leaders exerting their wider influence and negotiating direct with Westfield.
