SIR – The other evening while watching the news, an item appeared concerning the protesters camped outside St Paul’s Cathedral who are protesting against the greedy bankers who are building themselves riches on earth.

Some of the very worthy clergy have resigned, being unable to go against the teachings of our Lord.

On the news item I noticed a huge banner proclaiming, ‘What would Jesus do?’ If we read the Gospel of St John, Chapter 11, we see that Jesus and his mates were invited to a wedding ‘knees-up’ in Galilee, at which Jesus turned water into wine.

After these proceedings Jesus went up from Galilee to Jerusalem and entered there a temple to which he was not best pleased.

Jesus went from the temple and made unto himself a whip from small branches and twigs. He then re-entered the temple, kicking over tables and beating the ‘living daylights’ out of the traders and money-lenders, driving them out telling them, ‘Turn not my Father’s house into a house of profit’.

We come back to the present-day question – What would Jesus do?

I believe he would go among the unwashed rabble of the tents and bestow his blessing.
