SIR – May I voice my disgust at the attitude of Council leader Ian Greenwood after his comment that the £10 charge for a blue badge disabled parking permit is not unfair (T&A, November 2).
It probably isn’t to him, a mere pittance out of the allowance he claims as Council leader, but does he not realise that the majority of blue badge holders either can’t work because of the disability which they claim the badge for, or are elderly retired people who are already having to eke out an existence on the pension they get?
May I also add that I don’t know what planet Barry Thorne is from, but my blue badge has held a photograph on it for as long as I can remember.
Indeed its only two or three months since I wrote to the T&A suggesting that the said same picture should be displayed on the face of the badge instead of being hidden out of sight!
Although having said that, more than likely some do-gooder would say that the badge holder’s human rights might be compromised.
Let’s hope the powers-that-be will read this letter and will put the wheels in motion so that everbody can see at a glance if the badge is being abused, and by whom.
