SIR – Bradford Speakout is calling on local politicians to tackle cuts to support services for vulnerable people in the district.
Hundreds of housing-related support services have already been decommissioned or reduced nationwide after the Government cut funding by 12 per cent. Some councils have passed on even larger cuts locally.
The services covered by the money can include in-home help for older people, living assistance for disabled, and homelessness prevention schemes.
We have written to Bradford MPs, asking them to convene a meeting with Bradford Council and providers of local support to plan how services can be protected.
Bradford Speakout is calling on Bradford Council to protect housing support services and wants it to publish details of spending on these services so they can be properly held to account.
We recognise Bradford Council is having its funding squeezed, but cutting services for vulnerable people now does not make sense.
Not only will losing vital housing support be a blow to the people relying on it, it will also mean higher costs for other services forced to pick up the pieces such as the NHS and social services.
